April 5, 2012 Minutes

WHATCOM COUNTY PONY CLUB AGENDA 4-5-12

Meeting was called to order.

Linda: Wants to be notified/reminded of lesson dates.

 Attendance: Anna, Noah, Serena, Zoe, Raeghan, Cheyenne and Parents: Nina, Kim, Lisa, Stas, Chrisdena, Lisa, Sally and Deb Moldenhauer

Pledge: was said by all.      

Minutes from Unmounted Meeting March 1, 2012: were read and approved by the members.

Treasury Report: Stas reported that the De Spooking Clinic netted 1,954.57 after our 500.00 donation to the water jump at the WA State Equestrian Park and other costs of 1,489.93, still pending 300.00 of entry fee’s due from Pony Club Families and 100 deposit refund from Bellingham Riding Club.

CALENDAR ITEMS, SHOW, RALLIES, EVENTS:

Summer Lesson Schedule needs to be set. This was tabled to next month”s adjenda.

OLD BUSINESS:

Spring Rating Status: Date is April 22nd, Location is Patty Yust's, Examiner is Cecelia Lee 425-888-8225.  Skagit County is sending a D-2 for examination. Parents decided to bring some lunch food. Will check-in closer to the date.  Zoe and Raeghan will test for their D1. Serina will test for her D1 and D2.

Community Service for 2012: Big Brothers & SisterS.  wE DECIDED NOT TO TAKE THIS ON FOR THIS YEAR.

NEW BUSINESS:

Technology update from Lisa. Please change Debb's email  TO themoldys@hotmail.com  fACE bOOK WILL BE THE PRIMARY WAY WE POST MESSAGES TO THE GROUP.

Bookstore Order: Rule Books Amendments needed. pLEASE LET dEB KNOW IF YOU NEED A PONY cLUB PIN OR MEDICAL ARMBAND.

Safety and liability Issues were discussed. Caution needs to be taken with turning a loose horse out, in the paddacks close to Patty’s arena. This can affect the riders and lessons in the arena.  Also adequate warm up opportunity for some horses is required.  Discussion as to how to handle this occurred.

Discussion about adding a couple of other options for Facilities to have mounted lessons at occurred. No changes for now.

Tet Rally: Team is Noah (Captain), Serena, Zoe, Cheyenne. Report on Practice days and Rally checklists were discussed.

Dressage Rally:  Serena will be going as a catch rider.  Good luck Serena.

Summer jump instructor ideas for july and August were discussed

Pony Club Pledge was said by all.

Member review of unmounted topic from February meeting.

Instructor's input:

Secretary: Minutes from February were read and approved as is.

Treasurer Report: Stas gave the treasurers report.

CALENDAR ITEMS, EVENTS, SHOWS, RALLIES:

Tet Rally: May 5th & 6th at PoleStar, need to complete paperwork & mail in. Kids interested in Tet so far are, Noah, Zoe, Serena and possibly Cheyanne.

Quiz Rally: March 10. It was decided not to participate this year, due to lack of preparation.

Horse Management Seminar: March 24th. Held in Chehalis, WA. It is encouraged for all to go if interested. Different levels of information

Suzi Huizenga/Fair Jump Days: March 18 & April 22

Arena Trail Class Schooling Day at Sunset Farm: April 14

Dressage Rally: April 27th to 29th at Donida Farms

ON GOING & OLD BUSINESS:

Confidence Clinic: Riders signed up = 16.  Discussion of preparations for Confidence Clinic; Need to sign up for various tasks & bring items listed.

1. Parking, 1 or 2 parents

2. Kitchen/Concessions Candy from Deb, Muffins/Cocoa from Sally, Cookies from Nina and Lisa, Soup from Carole and Kim and Deb, Cookies and Chile from Chrisdena.

3. Event Secretary (collect $ from auditors, etc. and give arm bands)

4. Monitoring of horses during breaks

5. Clean up of garbage & horse poops in arena during the day. Pony CLub kids will help with this. Need to bring garbage sacks and remove garbage.

Items needed: Walkie talkies (Stas offered), Paper towels, chairs, tables, ear plugs, food?, pony club promotional materials, chairs, blankets, cash for concessions & entry fees to make change, Signage, what else?

NEW BUSINESS:

Pony Club Lesson Fee's were again brought up for discussion by Chrisdena. Kim made a motion to raise the lesson cost back to $10, which would still be subsidizing each lesson $5.

Technology: Report from Lisa, discuss mode of communications for our group

Make up Dressage Lesson: March 18th?

Set a date for a Spring Rating: April 22nd.

Tet Rally team: Serena, Zoe, Noah & Chyanne? Practice Dates are: March 8th at Lisa's

Quiz Rally Team? Not this year.

Additional Fundraiser ideas were tabled for now.

Anna's essay in the Herald: Thanks to Deb for spearheading the idea of getting an article about Pony CLub in the B'ham Herald to help advertise the clinic.

Community Service: Debb was contacted by the Big Brother's Big Sister's by Katie Allison. She is asking our club to consider doing a service for the club in which 7-8 children would come with their Big Brother or Sister. Just the kids would learn how to groom, and then maybe be led around on a horse. This could be done some time in the summer. D-Manuel, the new updated one is available at USPC Bookstore for ordering

DC Retreat Notes:

Youth Protection Module and background checks, Championships may be canceled by National office if gas prices escalate. Therese Coad to visit our club in September to audit club & our books, then a peer audit will be required from National every other year. Write our club guidelines. Keep Therese updated on what our club is doing, or send her the meeting minutes.
For the minutes Checking was $1,683.34 and Savings was 786.79
